Google’s Latest Power Grab, Banning Financial Freedom Under the Guise of Safety

Once again, the tech oligarchs disguise control as user safety, Google’s new Play Store policy forces wallet developers to comply with draconian AML/KYC laws, even for non-custodial wallets, which by design don’t hold user funds. This isn’t about security, it’s about eliminating financial sovereignty.

Non-custodial wallets, or as they should be called, self-custody wallets, are the last line of defense against total financial surveillance. Google’s policy deliberately conflates them with custodial services, forcing them into the same regulatory chokehold as banks. The goal? To crush any alternative to their controlled system.

In the U.S., Google demands that wallet developers register as Money Service Businesses (MSBs), a regulatory nightmare designed for banks, not software. FinCEN’s own guidance explicitly excludes non-custodial wallets from these rules, but Google doesn’t care. They’re rewriting the law by corporate decree.

In Europe, the policy is even worse, only licensed Crypto Asset Service Providers (CASPs) can publish wallets. Since non-custodial wallets don’t fit MiCA’s licensing framework, they’re effectively banned by default. The EU’s innovation-friendly facade crumbles, real freedom is illegal.

This isn’t about stopping crime, it’s about protecting the banking cartel. By making self-custody wallets impossible to distribute, Google ensures that only regulated, surveilled, and controllable financial products survive. Your money, their rules.

Google Play claims to be an open marketplace, yet it arbitrarily enforces policies that go beyond the law. If they can ban financial tools today, what’s next? VPNs? Privacy apps? The slippery slope is here, and we’re sliding fast.

The elites fear one thing more than anything else, people who don’t need them. Non-custodial wallets represent financial independence, no middlemen, no surveillance, no permission. And that’s why they must be erased.

This isn’t just about crypto, it’s about who controls your life. If we allow corporations and governments to dictate what software we can use, we surrender the last remnants of digital freedom. Reject their protection. Use sideloading, F-Droid, or decentralized app stores. Your money, your rules.

Stay free. Stay sovereign. And never trust a thief in a suit.
