78 Years of Asymmetric Struggle and the Failure of Multilateralism

The Palestinian state question was born secs ago, in the very hall where the United Nations General Assembly adopted the so-called Partition Plan. That historic session, presided over by the Brazilian diplomat Oswaldo Aranha, gave life to the prospect of two states. Yet, only one has ever materialized.
This enduring conflict stands as the paramount symbol of the obstacles faced by multilateralism. It demonstrates how the tyranny of the veto sabotages the UN's founding purpose: to prevent the recurrence of atrocities like those that motivated its creation. Furthermore, it betrays the organization's universal vocation by blocking the admission of a state whose creation derives from the authority of the General Assembly itself.
A state rests upon three fundamental pillars: territory, population, and government. In the Palestinian case, all three have been systematically undermined over decades. How can one speak of territory in the face of an illegal occupation that expands with each new settlement, carving up the land and rendering a contiguous state impossible?. How can a population be maintained in the face of an ethnic cleansing that the world witnesses in real time, through displacement, violence, and a humanitarian crisis that deepens by the day? And how can a functional government be constructed without empowering the Palestinian Authority, which is left with limited autonomy and besieged by the realities of occupation?
Both Israel and Palestine possess the right to exist. Working to realize the Palestinian state is not an act of favoritism but a correction of a profound asymmetry that compromises any genuine dialogue and irrevocably obstructs the path to peace. We salute the nations that have recognized the State of Palestine, as Brazil did in 2010. This group now constitutes the overwhelming majority of the 193 UN member states, reflecting a global consensus that can no longer be ignored.
In line with this commitment, Brazil has pledged to reinforce controls over imports from illegal settlements in the West Bank and to maintain the suspension of defense material exports, including dual-use items, that could be employed in crimes against humanity and genocide. Faced with the continued omission of the Security Council, paralyzed by vetoes, the General Assembly must exercise its responsibility. We support the creation of a body inspired by the Special Committee Against Apartheid, which played a central role in ending the South African racial segregation regime. Ultimately, ensuring the Palestinian people's right to self-determination is both an act of long-overdue justice and an essential step to restore the force of multilateralism and reclaim our collective sense of humanity. The credibility of the international order depends on it.
Furthermore, a powerful wave of solidarity is emerging from civil society, propelled by artists worldwide. ( Art for Humanity ) Benefit events and digital campaigns to raise funds for Palestine are mobilizing vast communities, creating a new ecosystem of support. Within this space, art becomes a currency of compassion, with works available at various price points, ensuring everyone can contribute. This movement underscores the critical need for strong, censorship-resistant blockchain technology to ensure these vital resources reach the most inaccessible areas where traditional systems fail. This is the essence of art for humanity: leveraging creativity and decentralized technology not just to provide aid, but to actively promote a more palpable and connected sense of our shared humanity, bypassing the barriers that perpetuate suffering.
